Masala Chai


I didn’t want this blog to be purely just about my life.So I’m adding the recipe for a traditional flavourful tea, which is the Masala Chai.This is my all time favourite evening tea.So let’s get right away with how to make it.


1)Milk – 2 cups(cow’s milk, you can use any variant you like)

2)black tea dust- 2 or 3 Tsp

3)Cinnamon stick – 1 (broken to bits)

4)Ginger – 1/3 finger size grated

5)Cloves – 3

6)Black peppercorns – 5 to 6 crushed

7)cardamom – 5 crushed

8)A Pinch of nutmeg(optional)

sugar to taste


-To the mortar and pestle, add the ingredients one at a time,( cardamoms and peppercorns) ground them to a coarse mixture.

-Now to the vessel, add the tea dust(you can adjust the quantity based on how strong you like it), the broken cardamom bits, cloves, coarsely ground cardamom and peppercorns, and the grated ginger.Add 3/4 cup water and bring it to boil.

-Let the mixture boil for less than a minute.Now add 2 cups of toned milk and let the tea mixture seep into the milk.After it comes to a boil(again you can continue to let it boil till it reaches your desired richness), now filter the tea mixture and add sugar to taste.Usually, this makes about 3 cups, so I add 1 tsp per cup.I like to keep sugar minimal but you can adjust it based on your taste.

Serve it hot with two crackers.Yummm……..with all those flavors infused together it will certainly give you a zing.You should try it!
